Digital Audio: Who Owns the Music?
October 20, 1999
Last year, Congress addressed the issue of intellectual property rights in electronic media with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Today digital audio, now widely available on the Internet, challenges traditional relationships between owners and users of copyrighted materials, and threatens to overturn the existing music distribution system. Led by U.S. Senators Jay Rockefeller and Bill Frist, the Forum advocates no particular position or policy prescription. Our sole purpose is to inform. Our briefings are nonpartisan, balanced, and open to the public and the media.
