Nuclear Technology - A Clean Energy AlternativeThe Office of Nuclear EnergyThe Office of Nuclear Energy (NE) at the United States Department of Energy (DOE) is responsible for promoting the research and development of nuclear energy technology as a clean energy alternative to fossil fuels. Goals include expanding the energy yield of nuclear fuel and maintaining existing infrastructure. The Office makes an extensive collection of information available to the public. Available resources include transcripts of Congressional budget requests, annual performance plans, Congressional reports, and relevant Acts. Also available are press releases, a glossary of nuclear terms, and contacts for employment opportunities. The American Nuclear SocietyThe American Nuclear Society was founded in 1954 as the United States sought to develop the technology to produce energy through nuclear power safely and efficiently. The Society quickly gained in prominence and began to exert a powerful influence on the development of American nuclear energy policy. The Society holds regular meetings, issues publications, offers more than twenty scholarships for university education, and carries on various outreach activities. ANS scholarships are named for prominent figures in the field of nuclear science and technology and are awarded to candidates with exemplary academic records. Awards are available to both entering freshmen and sophomores in college. |
